I'm hoping I can describe my efforts below without being labeled a heretic or an agitator. I am hoping that the idea below will interest a few of the CCC members.
While I spend almost all of my time with the 2D screens of the CCC engine, I have pondered a way of emphasizing the pageantry of the GORGEOUS 3D units we find in these scenarios.
And then it struck me. Most folks may have noticed that large areas of ground cover can look very dense and green near ground level.... but the same area (even one's backyard) can look sparse from an elevated viewpoint.
With this inspiration in mind, I took the large and small 3D hex .bmp files and followed these steps:
1) I did a SAVE AS with both files into backup files.... so that I had the original files safely out of the way.
2) I then used a photo editor that works with .bmp files, and I manually adjusted the balance of the original 3D hex files to "fade" them, "yellow" them, and generally reduce the vividness of the hex colors.
3) Then I re-opened a scenario and zoomed in on the 3D views.
I think the results can be spectacular. While some of the lighter colored units may not be ideal for this approach, it works REALLY well with the darker units that tend to disappear into the original dark green hexes.
The blood red British look GORGEOUS against the faded yellow-green background ... the color of hay one might say.
It's just a thought. And the backup files are always there if I decide I don't like the effect.
Regards,
Lieutenant Brooks
