 Post subject: Game/Player Stats
PostPosted: Thu Dec 01, 2005 3:41 pm
So as not to post off topic in other threads, I'd like to voice my opinion on the recent "stats/win/loss" discussions if I may please.

Some people are interested in the minutia of sports game results, sports star achievments, PBEM game/player results, etc. And some aren't interested at all, which is fine. I fall into the former group as some other CCC members evidently do. I'm aware of the current CCC management's views and concerns about allowing members to publicly list CCC stats, but I do find it a little disturbing that there also seems to be an effort to discourage even talking about stats and such. Can't the old adage about not reading what you're not interested in apply here? Be it a discussion of stats, or even a publicly listed set of rankings/stats? I can't believe that someone wouldn't join in on the fun because he saw a list of names and numbers incorporated somewhere in the CCC pages. If you don't like the idea can't you simply not go to those pages? I think that there is a real, though admittedly relatively small, number of members who are interested for whatever reason, can a compromise be hammered out between the two views?

I myself don't have any problem at all with ranking players and armies in these clubs and I'd say so with a winning or losing record. I commented before that a lot of U.S. schools are adopting a policy of trying to make everyone as equal as possible (to the extent of giving easier tests to below average students compared to average and above students) in order that no one's "esteem" gets bruised. We seem to have a similar slant in this club. Don't emphasize stats, don't emphasize winning, don't emphasize standings...some of us are here FOR those reasons (among other things of course) and I don't think it'll be cause for anyone to spend an eternity in hades. [}:)] Folks, there is no conspiracy amongst the stat fans. And things just seemed livelier around here when we did provide a couple of minor comparative tallies for a few things.

Anyway I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I would like to open a thread where those who are interested in the subject can read and discuss this in a positive and constructive manner. If you disagree and want to voice your opinion that's welcomed too, or, you can skip over the thread. Even if nothing comes of it, I'd still like to kick around some thoughts on the subject....because I'm interested. [:D]

Phil
