| Have you ever taken a nice stack of counters,
and moved them to a crucial hex.... only to
 realize that in the middle of all those
 counters (usually 8 is the maximum), there
 was a cavalry unit, or a supply unit?

 "Dang it!" you say.... "I forgot I had put that
 there.... and I didn't want it to move there!"

 Well, one of the contributing causes for this is
 the subtle differences between the unit icons for
 Cavalry, Artillery, Militia and Rifles!

 Cavalry usually holds up a sword (though Cowpens
 does use a musket-carrying dragoon in a few places).
 The supply guy has a horse whip. The artillery man
 has a "plunger", and those with rifles (usually?)
 hold a long gun WITHOUT a bayonet.

 After a few errors too many, I finally decided that
 I was going to make a "variant" unit.bmp file that
 would help save me from myself.

 Using art and photo clippings from various sites, I
 created British and American versions of:

 1) Supply men;
 2) Cavalry;
 3) Rifles;
 4) artillery.

 I even made a "skirmisher" image for British
 and American forces... should that become handy
 (it can be used with rifle or musket).

 All the remaining units (a great number of various
 Musket-carrying men) were left alone. Now when I click
 on a stack, the NON-musket soldiers immediately leap
 out at me.

 What's especially good, of course, is that the UNIT.BMP
 file is on my local drive, and doesn't affect or bother
 your opponent's use of his conventional bmp file. Whether
 he uses the variant bmp file or not doesn't affect the
 game play.

 So, if anyone (on any C1776 army) would like a copy of my
 "Unit-Variant02.bmp" (either as a bmp or as a zip file),
 let me know. I find it's easier on the eyes, and I make
 fewer mistakes having a clear distinction between Musket
 units and "all the rest" of the unit types!
