I've noticed some recent comments on this subject, so thought I'd start up a dedicated thread. (It's been a while now since this topic was discussed)

Clearly this optional rule remains very under-used, due to a number of defects with the way this feature is handled. This is regrettable, because the feature would be a useful one if its effects weren't so excessive and unrealistically one-sided.

It should be possible at some point - for instance, whenever the next round of patches finally come out - to ask John to put the probability for this feature in the pdt rather than have it hard coded.

Also, the number of rifle armed militia units could be reduced in some scenarios to more realistic proportions. Some custom-made scenarios have already done this, but perhaps the stock 1776 scenarios could be revised too.

Finally, the feature would really need to work for both sides, since surely Tory riflemen would be just as likely to target officers as their rebel counterparts.
