I'm looking for some insight about the Revolutionary War lineage societies.

The background is that I recently discovered my grandson can trace his ancestory back to Major Jacob Perkins of the New Jersey Burlington Militia through my daughter-in-law's family. So I was researching what it would take to join the Sons of the American Revolution. However, I've now come to find out there are two groups. The National Society Sons of the American Revolution and another called the Sons of the Revolution.

Can anyone tell me why there are two and what is the difference between them. The web sites sound pretty similar to me.

The second question deals with the fact that my grandson is currently 4 months old and I would prefer to sign him up for an organization that might eventually provide him some age appropriate education/activities, besides war gaming the battles with grand pa. In this regard there is another society called the Children of the American Revolution. So when it comes to youth membership what are the differences in benefits.

The one thing that came out in my research is that some groups accept membership in one as good enough as membership in the other and it appears that membership in the Children of the American Revoluion is not considered rigorous enough to allow you to transfer to the other two, but that's really not an issue for me since I will eventually have paper trail that will not be an issue.

So, can anyone offer any opinions about NSSAR, SoR, or CAR?
