Colonial Campaigns Club (CCC)

Have any of you tried your hand with a metal detector? If you have an interesting find... you can easily get excited to the point of addiction by this hobby. I'd be interested if you have had any experience recovering colonial or FIW era artifacts.

I recently got a good detector and went to work on the front yard of our 1780's period farm. Within 10 minutes I had found a great 1917 dime and that afternoon my friend and I recovered a musket ball 7 inches down. A recent rain made it especially easy to find artifacts. Overall, I am amazed that these tools have such a good ability to discriminate trash (nails and tin foil) from real artifacts.

The only problem encountered(being new to this hobby)was when my wife exclaimed that we have a major "gopher problem". She had looked out the front window and saw small piles of dirt and holes all over the place. Oops!
