Is it possible to use the maps from one game, in another, or is there some coding in the maps, that makes them functional only in the game they came from, i.e., can I use a map from FIW in 1776? If so, how does one get them to work? Is there another file that has to be copied as well, or some other trick involved, and if so, what?

Aside from 1776, I'm pretty sure the maps are "locked" (that is to say, you can't use maps other than official ones released in or for that particular game). It may well be in 1776 as well. It used to be that you could make some modded maps there, but that may have been changed in some patch or another. I'm honestly not positive.

You can not switch game to game. I am pretty sure modded maps still work for the game. (Though the last time I checked was a few updates ago.)

There's a ton of add-on maps floating around for these games, so you should have plenty of ground to work with.

I was hoping to use the FIW Fort Ticonderoga (Carrilon) map in 1776, in place of the 1776 map, and the FIW map has a better representation of the fort, and the river is a river rather than mostly marsh. I suppose I can always move the 1776 OOB, etc, to the FIW engine and do it that way. Thank you for the link sir.
