Just stumbled across this movie. It's hysterical. America v Canada. Alan Alda as the US President. John Candy is a sherriff. The chick from Taxi is in it, so is one of the main guys from West Wing. Jim Belushi is a reporter, at least I think its him. Not sure why Alda wants war with Canada, got in late on the movie, but the US has begun "Operation Canadian Bacon: A Line in the Snow". A perfect follow up game for the EAW series! ;-)

Rats! Its a Michael Moore film. Bummer. ;-) Evidentlly, its his first, a parody of the First Gulf War.

I thought it a funny movie myself. Highlighting 'cultural' differences and/or differences of perception between our two neighboring countries.
Those Canadiens are just Too Nice & Litter Free.

I love the film....saw it years ago and still enjoy seeing it every time. I also love Dan Aykroyd's cameo in it where he pulls them over and makes them put all their obscene words in French also on the side of the garbage truck....I am from Buffalo, NY, so I understand Canadians pretty well, we used to get CTV & CBC, nothing beats Hockey Night in Canada, which is truly a northern thing, no southerner I have met understands it or likes hockey, daft fools! I also think some of you fellahs would like the Canadian comedy show, Red Green....it is hysterical. But I digress, as when you do get to the border the signs are in both English & French! Not all signs are, but official ones are.....but the film is one of Candy's last films. It is a shame he is gone....

This Suthron guy likes hockey just fine .. thank you very much :mrgreen: Of course, it helps to have a hockey team to support (Dallas Stars) :!: :wink: :!: :P

Is Canadian comedy anything like British comedy. If so, I think I would like it too. :)

I agree with Gary. I love watching a good hockey game, and following a good team. Back in the '70s I lived in Cincinnati, and it had two minor league hockey teams, both of which, consistently, won thier league's title. Very fun to watch, and to listen to on radio!

It appears all, or nearly all of the actors in Canadian Bacon are Canadian born. Pretty cool, and a pretty funny movie, although the very end wasn't as good as the middle.

Ok so there a few of you who get it.... :) I always loved the older clips when they did use helmets and the mist came off the ice.... :D

Canadian Humor is close to British humor........with some infusion of American....

Being a Canuck myself, the best Canadian comedy show IMHO is an old series called SCTV (Second City TV). It was done in the 80's by the old Second City troupe from Chicago and Toronto which was largely Canadians. The TV series was based on a fictional TV network based in the US town of "Melonville" and very sattirical of Canada and the US...John Candy, Eugene Levy and Martin Short are just a few of the stars on this show...

MY paternal grandfather was born in Toronto circa 1900 so I feel a certain kinship to my northern brethern. Among my favourites are Bob and Doug McKenzie.
