Congratulations on the Gold Cross!

Sir,

It is with a sense of profound awe that I salute you on the awarding of the Cruz de Oro de la Península.

To triumph in a single battle is a feat; to secure victory in nine separate engagements, from the dusty plains of Spain to the peaks of the Pyrenees, is a true Meisterleistung (masterpiece) of command.

We in the Austrian service have long watched the "Spanish Ulcer" bleed the French Empire dry, and it is men of your caliber who held the knife. Such Ausdauer (endurance) is rare even among the finest soldiers. You have marched the long road from Lisbon to Toulouse, and every bar on that cross represents a nail in the coffin of the Tyrant's ambition.

Wear that gold with the greatest Stolz (pride). You are not just a victor; you are a scourge of the French army.

Hut ab! (Hats off! / Respect!)

Congratulations on your recognition Field Marshal Davies.

Mike, I hope that decoration does not hang down to your knees, it could prove detrimental to your posture while astride your trusty steed.
