Hey Guys:
Sorry for the delayed response. I am currently tied up at work, but wanted to briefly respond. There are several people working on tournaments for various games. One of which I am aware is an H&R Tournament hosted by the Russian Army. Another will be for the new HPS title that, by all accounts, is soon to be released.
In the meantime, I am virtually ready to start a tournament in HPS Waterloo since that is a title that is generally owned and played by most members of the club. There will be two single, elimination rounds to narrow the field followed by a multi-player pairing for two more rounds to determine the winning team. Officers which are defeated in Round 1 will drop down to play in a Loser's Bracket so that you actually must be eliminated twice to be retired from the tournament. We will use the player's performance in the first two rounds to obtain equitable pairings for the multi-player rounds. I will provide more details to the exact method a little later, but the objective will be to balance the teams so that the tournament battles remain equally competitive. The winning teams from Round 3 will advance together for the remainder of the tournament. The total number of rounds required for the tournament will be determined by the number of participants. All officers will play the same scenario in each tournament round. The scenarios will be carefully selected for play balance. Each scenario will be announced at the start of the tournament round. A time frame will be given for the completion of each scenario so that we may proceed with subsequent rounds. Combat will be performed using the MOE IV Rules set. This tournament is open to the General Membership and all ranks are encouraged to participate. Players will be initially paired by rank and battle records. Veteran players will be paired with junior officers in the multi-player rounds. As you will be playing several different opponents, and have a partner in the latter rounds, this tournament will serve to allow many of our officers to get to know others whom they may not have met.
I know this is rough, but I assure you, we will have fun. I will make a formal announcement soon that will be (hopefully) much better than this quick blurb. In the meantime, those of you who are interested, please begin posting your names in this thread so everyone can see the officer that is destined to win (i.e. You!).
