What kind of % are we talking????

I don't believe that the percentage works as a rule for matches. If I take Waterloo as an example I could wipe out all your D & E quality troops and achieve a victory even though the most effective troops remain in the field?
Also in our present match it's not possible to destroy 40% of your army in the 40 turns allowed. From a points and strategy point of view the match was lost 5 moves ago. :)

The peaceful quiet of the Belgian countryside is briefly disturbed by the discharge of a hunter’s rifle, but far from settling back into serene silence, the first shot is closely followed by several more. The firing is scattered at first, but soon swells into a cacophony as soldiers form lines and discharge their weapons in carefully measured volleys of destruction. Soon enough, the artillery begins to fire, deafening the combatants and laying waste to all about them. In their serried ranks, the cavalry prepare to charge. The Struggle of Nations has begun.

All players should now have been informed of the pairings for Round 1 of the 2011 Struggle of Nations Tournament. I am sending game files to the first phasing player of each pair of combatants upon my receipt of their agreement of the Optional and House Rules that will be used in their game. The Round 1 games must all be completed by January 31, 2012 to meet our scheduling for the subsequent rounds.

Since we have only 54 participants, we will need to take special measures to advance players into subsequent rounds. It is to the benefit of all players to inflict as many casualties upon your opponent as possible, while incurring the fewest loses as this will affect your CPD ratings. The five players who lose their Round 1 match with the lowest CPD will advance to Round 2 in the Winner’s Bracket. This is a necessary measure to ensure that we have 32 players in Round 2 of the Winner’s Bracket so that the remainder of the tournament Winner’s Bracket will properly play out as follows:

• 27 Round 1 Winners + 5 Losing Players w/ the Lowest CPD = 32 Players for Round 2
• 32 Players are paired into 2-Man Teams = 16 Teams for Round 2 Play
• 8 Teams from Round 2 Advance to Round 3
• 4 Teams from Round 3 Advance to Round 4
• 2 Teams from Round 4 Play a Final Match to Determine the Tournament Winner

So, mister President, the main question now is how can I contact my opponent ?
I know him: GdB Pierre Desruisseaux, but where may I get his address from?
The NWC's La Grande Armee OB page has no them.

Thank you.
Votre serviteur.

The email addresses for all of the tournament participants was included in my mass emailing notifying everyone of the opponents with which they were paired. You should be able to pull Pierre's address directly from the address line.

To save you the effort in this instance, Pierre's email address is pierred(at)wargame(dot)ch.

If anyone else is experiencing difficulty contacting your opponent, let me know and I will be glad to help.

What is the recommended setting for Line Movement Restriction? The Tournament Optional Rules do not display for me.

I often play with it on, but it is really just a matter of personal preference. It just makes sense to me that good order is more difficult to obtain in a moving line based on the quality and discipline of the troops. I suspect those who are ACW players wouuld prefer this rule to be OFF as they tend to use lines much more than players who mainly focus on Napoleonics, or at least that has been my experience.

To answer your question though, it is ON in the Tournament Default Optional Rules settings.

I thought it might have an adverse impact considering the British fight almost exclusively in line.

It was a fun game folks: Cliff hid out most of the first half of the game. Finally brought out his cavalry to play. Ran them off.

Infantry showed up. Shot them away.

Finally made a decent flank attack - too late. Cavalry all decimated, other infantry mere skeletons.

Surrounded? Yes, like the Marines were at the Chosin Resevoir!

There was never a doubt where this one was heading.

Final score: -1000 points (plus) - French Major Defeat.

Too many more of these "victories" for Napoleon and he will have to abdicate.

OK, fellows, the Holiday Season is over (at least it is here in the USA). Time to focus on wrapping up our Round 1 matches. Remember that the deadline is January 31st. Eight of twenty-nine Round 1 matches have been concluded with the following officers emerging victorious on the first field:

Martin Huschka
Ed Blackburn
Jim Hall
Mark Jones
Bill Peters
Vincent Maddis
Celamanka Noftz
Frank Morehouse

Congratulations to these officers for their victories! Scott Ludwig will update these victories on the Round 1 Pairings page soon.

The Round 2 matches will begin the first week in February. Remember that all officers defeated in the first round will still compete in the Loser's Bracket of the tournament. As the initial pairings were arranged based on comparable battle records, there will be some very talented players in both brackets throughout this tournament, so don't relax, the competition will always remain high.

Just a reminder that it is January 21st and the SON Tournament battles for Round 1 must be completed on the 30th. That gives everyone just a little over a week to wrap things up.

In addition to the officers previously mentioned, the following officers have also now registered victories in Round 1:

Ludwig Schmidt
Vladimir Repnin
Philip Roubaud
Zach Bogue
Steve Browne
Andrey Jastrembskiy

Congratulations to these officers for their victories!

This leaves fifteen of twenty-nine matches unresolved at this time with nine days remaining to complete Round 1.
