Hey Cliff,

I just spoke to Bill yesterday as a matter of fact. He is fine and living in California at the moment, if you can believe that, looking for a job, and trying to recover from some recent back problems. He is in good spirits and still riding his bike daily.

There is certainly an OOB editor. No map editor will be released until the series is completed.

Dominik (the guy behind the DoR system) created a few years ago an oob editor.

You can find it here:

http://nwc.derwinski.pl/tools/oobeditorn.html

and it's better to what I have been using for many years before (.txt editor)

Oh and thanks for the link to the new editor, some time ago I stumbled over the old one but as it was more than 10 years old I didn't use it as I thought it might be of no use anymore with all the changes that the series had since that time.
Seems strange that there is no direct way to find it over our webpage, at least I couldn't see any link to it.
Anyhow is there at least some kind of guide for editing a map for this series?

David is correct. The maps are locked. You would have to create new maps and that's not possible.....the old BG games : maps could be created by a technical process I never understood. JM Barbier and Stephane Chicouri were both expert at that but they have both long departed sadly. Even if you found a way of creating maps and creating new games for the Tiller engine it would be illegal.

You could write to Rich Hamilton and ask to be added to the playtest team which seems to have gone the way of the dodo for the one game. Or you could offer your services direct to John Tiller - he may be quite positive given all the other designers seem to have given up. Worth a thought. Remember though, game creation is one thing; you also need good historical accuracy which Bill P excelled at, then a game needs balancing for playability.

The series has a way to go. Egypt and Italy you could argue are too early. They are still Napoleon's Campaigns though. 1807 is not too early. And yes, Spain - there were a number of famous battles there and a title much requested by the membership.

Engine changes won't happen. I'd wanted some form of gun capture like in Renaissance. I hate just seeing hundred of guns simply eliminated. In reality attempts were made to recover the things. Bill Peters did try for that one but it got dropped sadly.
