Napoleonic Wargame Club (NWC)

Ulm Campaign; 400 turns; 16 months. Major victory for the Austrians over FastPhil, even if by the end of the game the Austrians remained with 500 horses and 200 infantry still standing. Whether that constitutes a major victory is debateable.

Campaign games are recommended. You have time to develop a strategy. You have to scout and guess an opponent's intentions. In our campaign a major battle took place in the middle of nowhere, a classic escalating encounter battle where the Austrians were divested of most of their artillery.

My admiration applies both parties who were willing to play a long game to the end. I would love to sometimes himself as playing a large scenario over the entire or almost the entire duration. Unfortunately, it has always been so that the game opponents have abandoned prematurely. Either because no quick victory for them was foreseeable or because loomed a great defeat.

As of 03 August, I am willing to start a large scenario, if anyone is interested. Since I was three years out of service, I have unfortunately not all games on my PC.

No it's not Leipzig. The allies need 36000 points to win that one!! In this one the French need 1000 points to win.

Tom Moore and I played to a bloody draw at Eckmuhl and I think we played close to 300 turns.

What were the final losses?

I'm afraid all my games are brutal affairs. No finesse whatsoever since I met Richard Barrett among a few others. The only reason this wasn't as bloody as some is that I ran out of men, guns and horses.

Those numbers indicate you need some anger management.

I am glad you guys enjoyed that one! I remember when I decided to make that large map for the Ulm to Augsburg area. Thought I was nuts ...

Why? Well take one look at it and there are a lot of small valleys that have lines of hills. I would do one long line of contours and then have to loop back around and do another one! Incredibly tedious!

I cannot remember too many people finishing that scenario. Congrats guys and thanks for the recap.

Andy - you posted that you only like to play the long ones now. I love them too provided I have the time. I just finished almost two full days of Leipzig in a game and it takes dedication to continue to move all of those forces.
