Okay, since the Strategic Wargames Club idea recieved about the most underwhelming reception since Brett Farve tried to come out of retirement, I want to bring up and old subject. Let me say at the outset that I am not trying to upset anyone or be pushy, but the subject is being discussed in the NWC and some new points were raised by Bill Peters and Dean Beecham, both members of this club also, and I wanted to bring them out here.
My purpose, of course, is to suggest that Wars in America and For Liberty! be supported by this club. I have never played Wars in America, but since Birth of America is supported and WIA seems only to add a few upgrades and the War of 1812, it seems a natural.
For Liberty! I have played. And everyone I have communicated with who has played it thinks it a good game. It is turn based, easy to learn and very easy to play pbem.
Now, the main point I want to make (and that Dean and Bill made) is this -- supporting more games, so long as they fit the subject and are playable pbem, could help expand the membership of the club. Right now I am playing For Liberty! pbem with a Frenchman who lives in Algeria. He is not a member of this club, but if this game was supported I would ask him to join and I am almost certain he would. And if he did, he might very well become interested in the HPS titles. However, without the game he enjoys playing, there isn't much incentive.
Bill and/or Dean also made the point that it really doesn't matter how many people don't play a given game. I, myself, don't own FIW and won't buy it, because I have no interest in that particular subject. On the other hand, I am playing three games of 1812 now and have just finished another and two games of 1776. No harm done. FIW is still here for whoever wants to play it.
Those are my thoughts on the matter. If the club does not agree I won't bring it up again, at least anytime soon, but I thought it was worth saying.
