Santa provided a new computer for Christmas, which being new, runs on Windows 7. The CD drive appears to run when I put in my game discs, but it does not show up in the tree. Are the Talonsoft Battlegrounds, and the HPS Napoleonic & EAW series incompatible with Windows 7, or do I need some sort of emulator installed, or is my drive not functioning properly, or what? Any help would appreciated.

First, check this out:

http://www.hpssims.com/vistahelp.htm

This applies to all HPS games (every series of games, NAPPY, Panzer, etc) and works for the MATRIX versions of ACW and Nappy, as well. I am not so sure of the BG series (all Talonsoft games). I did get BGBR to work, but I do not play them, so I did not try them all, as I now use the MATRIX versions.

ALL HPS, BG and MATRIX games work fine in WIN7.

I just got a new computer, with WIN 7 (64 bit) and simply transferred my GAME HD over to the new computer, MOVED all my games to a new FOLDER, named GAMES and each and every one worked like a charm. The ONLY other "work" that needed to be done was to reset the settings and views and setup new shortcuts.

Ernie and Willie,
I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a Dell 1747 laptop and have the following observations and issues:

1. The HPS apps are supposed to be installed in the Program Files (x86) directory, not the primary Program Files directory.

2. My Early American games run slow, is anyone else encountering this? I am running an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card. This has been incredibly frustrating.

3. I have been playing a 1776 game and got through 8 turns. Then an error happens where I can not save the bte file. No other apps were open. I restarted and was able to open the file for the opposing side (so the game did realize that the turn counter was set to allow the other side to access the file) but then the app can not open the file).

4. Is there any way I can gain access to the HPS help files? I was not going to chance downloading the MS 32 bit fix because it might introduce a problem with my 64 bit app. Any suggestions?

5. The 1776 Expansion Pack #2 does not load. The error displayed; "Can't create output file: (path name is correct).

6. Win 7 has new file directory permissioning. I have had a lot of issues in getting access to the .bte files that we need to zip and send to an opponent.

Any suggestions or guidance would be much appreciated! I have submitted to HPS but do not have a response as yet.

Happy Tidings to everyone!

Please read the info on the HPS site concerning WHERE to install ANY HPS game. It specifically states to NOT install in any "program files" folder.

All my HPS games work fine. Generally, if you install as stated, you should have all your problems resolved.

Ernie,
I am reporting back to you after re-installing all 3 CCC games in a directory not associated with either 64-bit compatible programs or programs that require the Program Files (X86) directory (which I assume use an emulator).

If you remember or see my prior post... my games are running so slow that it is killing my enjoyment.

My experience is interesting. After a successful re-install of 1776, 1812, and FIW. I noticed a positive jump in speed, but still not as fast as when I ran these apps on Win XP Home.

Then, I installed all the patches, and the speed jumped downwards in speed to where I was when I was running them in the Program Files (x86) directory.

If anyone has experienced this issue in addition to myself, then we'd like to hear from you.
