What do y'all think of giving the weapon Carbine the 50% melee modifier?

Basically, cavalry can't charge in this engine, but historically it did, with effect at times.

By giving the cavalry a bit of a punch in melee it would help it work over infantry, and justify its higher cost in most scenarios.

Adding an * in the pdt file to the C weapon would be the easiest way to modify this. A more comprehensive, more labor instensive approach would be to change the pdt file, AND rearm the different cavalry units giving those who probably deserve the bonus the enhanced weapon, and giving those who don't deserve it a different weapon. I don't have the knowledge or time to do that accurately/fairly, so I advocate a simple change that puts some teeth in cavalry for 1776 & 1812.

Yes, no?

I think this is a good idea!! I have using D type for Cavalry to get the Melee Bonus.

Sounds good. Cavalrymen in that periode were usually armed with a sword of some sort, one, or more likely two, pistols and a carbine. The prefered weapon in cavalry-to-cavalry combat in fact was the pistol, not the sword what rather was used to cut down fleeing enemies.

Pistol & Sword would then be our "small arms". But this would mean omitting the ability of the cavalry to use carbines, what indeed they did whenever needed (from the European theatre I know of occasional salvo-fire from horseback against charging enemy cavalry). So with "small arms" the cavalry would be denyied the ability to use something more effective than a pistol for ranged fire; not to mention that our cavalry can also dismount what would be pointless when they only had pistols.

That way cavalry would effectivly need two weapons, what's not possible with our engine. In this case giving the carbine the bonus of "small arms" indeed would be a good sollution, saying that is the full kit of a 18th Century horseman, including small arms and a carbine.
