Every other year or so, we like to take a very scientific pole regarding our childhoods and whether our memories reflect our love for the CCC today? Here's the question...

We want to know if our members remember themselves (in their youth) playing with those cheap green plastic soldiers that we now often refer to as "greenies" . I believe that they cost approximately 99 cents a bag. Let's get a count of who did and who did not.

I clearly remember playing with a next door neighbor. He had a great sand pile in his yard and it gave us great terrain. I also remember that we had some vehicles. Were those troop trucks and half-tracks?

What memories do you have? Did you engage in pyro-technics? Wasn't that fun!

Had gobs and gobs of 'em. Oodles and skads, even! :D I remeber even getting one set that was colour coordinated: Green for the US (and isn't the guy with the .45 and the big wave iconic!) grey for the Germans, tan for the Brits, and Africa units.

Half-tracks, tanks, sandbag foxholes, the works.

So I submit: guilty as charged!

I had two older brothers and between the three of us we had hundreds of them. We had a huge backyard and would build trenches and earthworks for our plastic armies. In the summer, once fireworks went on sale, we stepped up our battles with genuine "artillery". The coolest thing we had for our battles was the Iwo Jima playset, complete with Mount Suribachi:

Anyone else have one of these babies?

Great post Phil! Thanks for bringing back some good memories.

I am now rolling on the floor with laughter after seeing your Mount Suribachi...

I am jealous to the max!

YES! Sometimes we would use rubber bands to "shoot" the enemy.

I'm afraid I was a little more destructive. We had bunches of them and used to have "sniper practice" using bb rifles. Would shoot a 'em for hours at a time.

All of mine (that were fit for it) were passed down to my son, and now, to his. They still get some use today, albeit to attack and overcome the "star-wars" figures my grand son loves so much!

I'm with Garry. My guys fought in the trenches. We dug extensive trench lines, filled small dixie cups with gasoline placed them near the trench and tossed lit matches. Of course napalm attacks were frequent occurences, too. Fill the trench lite a match. War is heck. ;-)

Prior to that, I used to buy a bag a week, with the 2 1/2 ton truck. I'd ogranize them using the World Book encyclopedia into squads, platoons, companies ... I never got to the battalion level. 1:1 scale. I also had some of the Rockets, moon men etc sold back then. Bloodie commies kept trying to attack our space base and rocket launch base.
